Doussie

The doussie is a very heavy wood with whitish or white-yellowish sapwood and brownish-golden or reddish-brown heartwood.

Coarse texture with straight or crossed or irregular grain.

Technological properties

The doussie is characterized by a very hard wood, with a very modest dimensional variation following changes in humidity.

Mahining with tools is not always easy, also because the rich presence of minerals causes rapid wear of the cutting edges. Difficult cutting and therefore rarely used.

It is a very resistant and medium-rigid wood. Very durable to the degradation from fungi and insects, resistant also to the attack of termites.

Use

The high density and natural durability make it ideal for heavy work even in outdoor environments, therefore it is privileged in the construction of bridges, dock docks, paving (even of velodromes).

In interior carpentry jobs it is used for the production of furniture, fixtures, stairs, flooring and profiles.

Typical defects

Internal tensions.
