Wenge
The wenge is a very heavy wood with well-differentiated heart of dark brown color, variegated by light stripes, parallel in the radial surfaces.
The grain is straight with medium to coarse texture.
Technological properties
The wenge is characterized by a hard wood and quite easy workmanship. The worked surfaces are smooth, the finishing treatments with paints can present difficulties for the extractions contained in the wood.
Exceptionally resistant and a very rigid wood.
There are frequent attacks by insects borne by plants in the forest, so much so that the wood coming from strongly degraded plants takes on the trade the name “Wengè camolato”.
Once seasoned it is mushroom-resistant and resistant to termites.
Use
Given its peculiar aesthetic characteristics, it is particularly appreciated for carpentry and fine crafts, cabinet-making, veneering, flooring, sports tools, luxury furniture, objects such as brushes, knife handles and toys.
Typical defects
Predisposed to chipping in areas of grain.
